How It All
Got Started
By
Harold (DJ Chips:The Electric
God) Barber
From 1975-1979 Fantasia Brooklyn’s
powerful mobile DJs rode the crest of the once popular disco
laden era. This was the era when African mobile DJs ruled
all the clubs in the five boroughs of NYC.
These
DJs had massive powerful sound systems that they had to
transport to and fro from one gig to the next. It was a time
when the name of the DJ got people to come to that a
particular club or party.
Fantasia was
a part of that group of famous mobile DJs like Cameron
(Grandmaster) Flowers, Pete DJ Jones, Plummer, Maboya, Rip
and Cliff, Mike the Magician, Nu Sounds, Disco Dad, Al
Green, Kool Herc, Black Arrow, Kool Dee, App's Electrfied Sounds,
DJ Mr. Gee, Big John Ashby, Disco Stompers, Soul Bros, Mike and Mike,
Frankie D, Carisma Funk, Tangueray, Larry D (helped Fantasia get
established) Dagger, The Smith Bros., and QJ Simpson, just
to name a few.
This site is
dedicated to the African American mobile DJs, who from the
early seventies to probably the 1980’s, reigned supreme in
the dance clubs and on WBLS radio airwaves. And this web
site honors their pioneering contributions to this now
booming dee jaying industry.
Fantasia’s
history is well documented here: We came, we saw, we
thumped!!
Fantasia who
consisted of DJ Chips, Larry B. Jimmy G, and Action Jackson
sound engineer extradonaire were the “Ghetto Superstars” of
a bygone era.
I want to
personally thank “THE ROADIES” whose blood and sweat helped
lift and load all that heavy equipment for us:
